Kiss, smooch, French kiss… There are as many ways to say it as there are good reasons to do it.

Just the news we’ve been waiting for! A recent study has confirmed that kissing does indeed have some health benefits. We may as well say that we had not waited for this study to take advantage of it, but it provides a good excuse for getting closer to our beloved, and kissing more. Moreover, according to a researcher of philematology (the science of the kiss, and yes that does exist!), kissing is an excellent health elixir. This article presents eight good reasons for sharing this pleasant moment.

KISSING IS GOOD FOR IMMUNITY

According to a study published in the Microbiome Journal on November 17th this year, kissing for 10 seconds (with the tongue, specifically) results in the exchange of 80 million bacteria. Put this way, it doesn’t really make us swoon. Nevertheless, the researcher demonstrated that this sharing of germs is a pretty good thing. By asking one of the partners to eat  probiotic yoghurt before a kiss, they were able to notice that these “good bacteria” had partially migrated to the partner in the exchange of saliva. Thus, the latter had an oral flora with a more widespread collection of bacteria. Yet, we know now that the more diverse the flora, the better the immunity. However, it would be futile to kiss every random stranger on the street. On the contrary, regular kisses with the same partner contribute to the establishment of new bacteria on the tongue, and, in turn, to better health. The proof is in the science!
