Magic Potion: Drinking one glass of wine makes you beautiful

updated the 9 March 2015 à 02:46

Another beautiful revelation in the name of science will have us drinking nothing else but one glass of wine when we go out.

If you are not really used to drinking, limit yourself to one or two alcoholic drinks. And don't make the mistake of thinking that the more you drink, the more it will give you courage! No, the more you drink the more you will be tipsy, or maybe even drunk! And this is a recipe for disaster.  You run the risk of talking a load of rubbish, a lot of nonsense ("I haven't slept with a guy for almost one year, I'm not even sure how to do it, ha ha!") and giggling. Or worse, if the alcohol makes you sad, you are going to complain and groan about your ex! Or the jackpot: you are sick (with the horrible breath that goes with that)! A real fiasco.

Not like we need another reason to love a glass of fine wine, but now it is scientifically proven that our favourite booze makes us look beautiful!

The study by Bristol University in the UK published in the journal, Alcohol and Alcoholism asked 40 students to drink different amounts of alcohol. Each had three pictures of themselves taken – one while sober, one after a glass of wine and another after two glasses. Sober judges rated pictures of those who had enjoyed one drink as the most attractive.

“That obviously doesn’t mean that alcohol is healthy,” Professor Marcus Munafò, the study’s lead researcher told Live Science. “What it means is that alcohol is sort of hijacking that mechanism, or promoting the aspects of facial features that we regard as attractive for other reasons.”

It’s all logical: wine dilates the pupils, naturally creates a blush on your cheeks (that signify a healthy complexion) and relaxes facial muscles, which result in a more approachable appearance. However, the magic stops when you have more than one glass as rosy cheeks turn into boiling-crab-red and relaxed muscles just look sloppy.

If you are as curious as we are about this new claim to enhanced allure owed to alcohol, why don’t we all hit the bar and find out?
