A device created for epilepsy sufferers sends automated mobile alerts to family members when a seizure is suspected.

More and more wearable devices have proved how useful they are but today here is one that can even save lives!

Smart Monitor, a San Jose based company, has created SmartWatch – a wearable device that can detect an epileptic seizure. This project was set up because of the relatively common diagnosis of epilepsy and the underwhelming lack of solutions. So the founders wanted to make living with epilepsy more manageable, as they said : “We at Smart Monitor empower those with convulsion, seizure and tremor disorders to live more active lives, be more independent and bring them, their families and their caregivers peace of mind.”

How does it work?

When excessive and repetitive motion similar to those caused by seizures is detected, SmartWatch – which includes a GPS system – sends automated texts and phone calls to family members.

The user can quickly summon help by pressing a button on the SmartWatch.

The wearable device can also record the time, location, duration and severity of all alerted events.

And last but not least, users can schedule automated and customized medication reminder alerts.

We are right behind this wearable device, not least because it’s for a good cause. If you are interested in this SmartWatch, you can find further details here !
