When the ankle is twisted inward, the external lateral ligament stretches and tears a little (or a lot in severe sprains). If the pain is “bearable”, the first reflex should be to put ice on the injured area to prevent the formation of edema.

THE FOCUS IS ON ESSENTIAL OILS AND HOMEOPATHY

Waiting to see the doctor, or in addition to the prescribed treatment, you can take Arnica 9 CH (5 granules) alternately every hour with 5 granules of Apis 9CH (to reduce swelling) to limit the pain. In terms of essential oils, use marjoram or cypress – use some drops of them, pure or diluted in a vegetable oil and massage for an analgesic effect. Not more than three times per day.

When it is not performed till the sprain gets better, the ligament is less reactive and the flexion of the ankle is not complete. “This greatly increases the risk of recurrent sprains,” says François Stevignon*, physiotherapist and author of Ending Backache.
