If you’re diabetic or are looking to cut down on your sugar, these are the dishes you’ll want to avoid.

Singaporeans might be divided over how we actually feel about the McDonalds Nasi Lemak Burger, but one thing we can universally agree upon as a nation is our love for our hawker foods.

Unfortunately, not all hawker foods are created equal – or equally healthy, that is. Especially if you’re diabetic or are looking to cut down on your sugar, your favourite savoury or salty hawker dishes are shockingly a lot more sugar-filled than you’d expect.

Take the humble mee siam, for instance. At 521 calories, it might be an unassuming dish calorie-wise. (Incidentally, the Health Promotion Board’s recommended added sugar intake is approximately 40 to 55g daily.)

It’s no secret that sugar one of the biggest killers we consume on the daily; which is why if you’re trying to be discerning in what you eat, these are the 7 hawker dishes you may want to avoid ordering them on your next lunch break.
