You hate putting powder but your skin tends to shine? We hear you! Here are some tips from the expert on how to solve this dilemma.

Tips from Patrick Lorentz, Senior Makeup Artist  at Estee Lauder.

The cause:
If your skin is shiny, maybe it’s because you have not cleaned it as necessary. Remember to cleanse your face in the morning! Contrary to what one might think, at night, the skin continues to produce sebum and the body reaches a peak temperature between 11pm and 3am (and sometimes, it sweats). So if it is not properly cleaned in the morning, we would be applying our makeup on an oily base.
Alternatively, your cream might be too rich and not suitable for your skin type.

The trick:
Use a mattifying base to act as a natural block and to absorb excess sebum. Opt for a BB cream, a tinted gel or a cream enriched with fats. If you are a fan of foundation, choose the powder version. Remember to always carry mattifying oil control papers for touch-ups throughout the day.

The pro’s tip:
If you do not like the powder because it indeed tends to mark the lines, here is an insider tip: Take some loose powder in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. Then, using your fingertips, drop it on your face by patting it. With this gesture, the formula changes and the texture becomes more “liquid” and mixes seamlessly with the foundation.
