The ‘forced’ smile
At the beginning, it is well intentioned, you want to seem pleasant, kind, but the complete opposite is happening! Your "tight" smile is scarier than everything else. And we can tell you that the more you try to hide your embarrassment, the more it will be as obvious as the nose on your face!

The best thing you can do, if you feel uncomfortable or out of place, is to simply say so! Don't let a mood of embarrassment ruin your evening. "I'm sorry, I have to confess that I'm a bit nervous." It is typically the kind of sentence that, contrary to what you would expect, defuses a disturbing situation.
So two options are offered to your date: He may confess to suffering from the same embarrassment as you, or he may reassure you and bend over backwards to make you feel at ease.

The “curled up-slumped” pose
Watch your body language! Without looking for attention, try to adopt a proper posture (especially if you are wearing an attractive low-neck). Think also not to cross your arms...

Having one drink too many!
If you are not really used to drinking, limit yourself to one or two alcoholic drinks. And don't make the mistake of thinking that the more you drink, the more it will give you courage! No, the more you drink the more you will be tipsy, or maybe even drunk! And this is a recipe for disaster.

You run the risk of talking a load of rubbish, a lot of nonsense ("I haven't slept with a guy for almost one year, I'm not even sure how to do it, ha ha!") and giggling. Or worse, if the alcohol makes you sad, you are going to complain and groan about your ex! Or the jackpot: you are sick (with the horrible breath that goes with that)! A real fiasco.

During a date, you have to forget your phone (but you can still keep a discreet eye on it in case of one our best friends has to call you to get you out of this difficult situation). There is nothing more irritating than a person who checks their emails/SMS and doesn't stop picking up the phone. So during a tête-à-tête with someone, switch it off!

However, if it's he who dares to make you wait by taking his calls on your FIRST date, just imagine what it can be like in the future...To conclude: Run away! (Well, if he is an on-call surgeon, we can excuse him of course.)
