How do we perform self-hypnosis?

Self-hypnosis is a particular ritual that must be respected to successfully enter a state of actual hypnosis, not just relaxation.

Continuing our interview with Francine-Hélène Samak, psychologist and practiser of hypnosis for 25 years. The author of “Self-hypnosis, the art of beneficial influence” (éd. How does one self-hypnotise?

Create a habit of entering a hypnotic state to set the framework for this moment. Start the first phase called the “induction phase”: a few minutes after you have comfortably settled down, calmly say a keyword or act out a key gesture of your choice which will indicate your entry into a hypnotic state. You can then mentally state your goal, for example, “I want to lose weight and give myself every chance of achieving it.” Let your thoughts and feelings come to your mind freely for the duration you have decided upon, be it 5, 10 or 15 minutes.  By the end of this, you will probably be surprised that you have mostly achieved your resolution, or rather that your unconscious has complied with it. It is similar to the phenomenon that occurs when going to sleep and you are aware that you have to get up early the next morning for a trip or an examination. Your subconscious programs your conscious to meet the request. The success of self-hypnosis is partly due to its regularity and frequency, essential to achieve the result you want.
What is happening?

During the hypnotic state, the hypnotherapist or the self-hypnotizer launches one, or is launched into, the facilitators’ suggestions. For example, one who wants to lose weight can end up feeling as light as a feather. This is because the suggestion is able to open the eyes to new images and subconsciously direct the hypnotised person towards their resolutions.
