In the age of social networks and virtual exchanges, we need to step back and reconsider physical contact. So we bring to you three perfect reasons you should indulge in a good ol’ cuddle session.

  1. It is good for health. A study published in 2012 in the journal Comprehensive Psychology, states that ten seconds of cuddling everyday would be sufficient to reduce blood pressure and stress, but also to prevent the risk of heart disease and depression. According to the work of the American researcher, Sheldon Cohen of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), the social bond induced in hugs boosts the immune system.
  2. It’s trending. As explained last year, hugging is fashionable everywhere, not just on International Hugs Day! The phenomenon of “free hugs”, which consists of an invitation to a hug in a public place, has spread since it first appeared in 2004. There is even, in France, workshops dedicated to cuddle in Paris and Marseille or hug bars in Japan.
  3.  It’s good for morale.  The hug contributes to the production of oxytocin, a key hormone in our well-being.
