Gestures: It’s all in the legs!

At the office or during dinner, watch your companions’s legs’ movement and position so that whatever they say, you will always have a head start …

leg gestures
‘Men do not make gestures, it is the gestures that make men’, writes the decoding expert Joseph Messinger. As he mentions in his many books, he is convinced that yes, more than the verbal language, our postural reflexes reveal a lot about who we are as people and how we are feeling in a particular situation.

So when it is your turn to speak, what is your neighbor, your boss, your colleague, your friend or even your teacher thinking? Even if it might appear as though he(she) are listening. Observe their legs and you’ll find out…

Seated, he/she crosses the left ankle on the right under his seat:

Your partner expresses through this his interpersonal intelligence and tends to want to prove that he is sensitive to others, tolerant and empathetic as well. And you can trust him!

Seated, he/she places the right ankle next to the left:

This means that it is up to you to keep a rational mode (not get your the feeling out of control). It shows firstly that he has a controlled approach and is especially a little wary. He may be hoping for a change of mood as he thinks a conflict is possible.

Seated, he/she has the legs crossed, one resting against the edge of the table or desk:

According to Joseph Messinger, it is obvious that this is a position of territorial protection. Your partner is defending his symbolic territory, resting against the edge of the table that represents a ‘natural armor’.

Seated, his right leg rests squared on his left knee:

This position would be an admission of retreat, or defense against a sense of invasion of mental territory.

Seated, his legs are back under the chair and his feet resting on the tips:

This position confirms the unavailability of the person in front of you. He/She is only half listening…

Seated with the feet lying flat in front of the chair:

This position indicates a relaxed attitude or good availability. It’s time to talk…

Standing or seated, he/she regularly scrapes the calf:

This reflects a lack of fighting spirit; persistence if it is the right calf, a lack of persistence in the case of the left calf.
