British actress Emma Watson gave a strong speech at the UN on gender equality. And she is not alone in this fight with other actresses and singers joining forces to support the cause.

At 24, the young actress is certainly wasting no time. While a lot of her peers are known for their escapades and stints in rehab, Emma Watson has recently become a Goodwill Ambassador for U.N. Women. She was commissioned by the prestigious institution to promote gender equality by reminding the male counterparts of their duties as far as this cause is concerned. A cause that seems particularly touching for the Brown University alumna. In an impassioned speech this weekend, she rightly pointed out that men AND women should have equal rights and equal opportunities. A sentence which might sound a little too obvious, but still worth being emphasized.

In her speech she said “the more I’ve spoken about feminism, the more I have realized that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating.” With the HeForShe campaign she hopes that more men and boys will become advocates of change in terms of gender equality.

By launching this new challenge, she can probably count on some of her Hollywood colleagues as well, as we reveal the top 10 feminist celebrities who have been speaking out on the topic and supporting gender equality throughout their careers.
