Story Cubes
By Playeum
This space features a series of cube-shaped structures which provide multiple surfaces and opportunities for story-telling, creating fantasy characters and new narratives.
It is also filled with the world's best storybooks for the children to pore over and enjoy.

Story Raft
Fabricated by Dennis Tan
Featuring a nautical theme, children can imagine being 'at sea' by playing on a raft (made of bamboo and rope) complete with a flag-flying mast and a wheel for steering. They can also create a personalised, imaginative marine environment by crafting their own sea creatures on the walls surrounding the raft, and also playing with the kinetic sand.

Playmaking Space

Children get to create their own unique hand, finger or spoon puppets using upcycled materials to bring to life in a puppet show. This activity will truly foster collaboration and give them the opportunity to work together as a team to produce the show.

Puppet Theatre

Using the props and puppets they made prior, children get to create and produce their own puppet show, right down to changing the lighting and even producing the accompanying sound effects.

Story Cave

Children can role-play in this truly immersive, multi-sensory cave, from experimenting with voice distortion mechanisms, sound tubes and speaking cups, to playing with the props available and creating their own stories in the magical Look and Touch Story Cave.

‘A Film Full of Stories’
Featuring Sheila Wee, Nancy Leopard, Kamini Ramachandran, Karen Lee, Rosemarie Somaiah, directed by Roger Jenkins
Children will get the opportunity to listen to some of Singapore's finest storytellers through a specially commissioned film. It features five storytellers each narrating a tale from a specific culture, which they get to enjoy within a magical space, with the walls lit up with glowing story icons and motifs.

Story Booth

This interactive feature invites children to share their story in a purpose-built space, allowing them to document their creations through either photography or video.

The Chalk Wall

Children can add their own chalk features and additional narrative to a visually stimulating chalk wall landscape.

Fantasy Dress Up
This space offers children a chance to dress up as their favourite fantasy character. With plenty of materials to choose from, the options are endless!

Story Writing
The slightly older children can write their own story or poem and post it into the Story Mailbox. It is definitely worth a try, particularly for aspiring young writers, as selected stories will be featured on Playeum's website!

It’s no secret that free play is critical to a child’s holistic development, with various studies attesting to the positive impact of pretend play in a child’s reasoning, and narrative and social skills. If you need inspiration for a fun and beneficial holiday activity for your kids this semester break, look no further. Playeum, Asia’s first ever dedicated creative space for children, has just launched its third interactive exhibition, ‘A World Full of Stories’ at Gilman Barracks!

Specifically designed for children ages 1 to 12, the exhibition aims to celebrate the importance of story-telling and play, through a series of interactive installations, programmes and open spaces for the young to harness their creativity and imagination. Children will be allowed unparalleled opportunities to harness their speech, language, drama and creative thinking skills through exciting installations like the Story Cubes, Story Raft, Play Making Space and more. Fans of Roald Dahl will be thrilled to learn of the ‘Roald Dahl’s Propsposterous Playtime’ session on 26 November presented by Penguin Books, consisting of installations and interactive activities centering around the much-loved classics written by the beloved children’s author.

We can’t think of a better way and initiative to celebrate the importance of play, creativity and imagination. If you’re keen on learning more about the individual installations during the exhibition, head up to our gallery above!
