Don’t know about you, but we’re making this our travel bible for 2018.

Lonely Planet has just revealed its 2018 Best in Asia list, a collection of 10 of the best destinations to visit in the continent for the year. But which city topped its list?

For its third annual Best in Asia list, their panel of travel experts has named Busan, South Korea as its top pick, describing it as “eclectic” and “vibrant”. Hot on its heels are the ancient cities and jewelled architecture of Uzbekistan in second place, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam at third.

It’s a list of surprisingly – and refreshingly – underrated destinations. Among its top 10 picks are Western Ghats in India, Lumbini in Nepal, and Sichuan Province in China. Granted, they’re still fairly untrodden paths for the average tourists, which is why if you’re scouring the travel guides for your next vacation spot, this is a list worth going by.

“Asia is such a vast and diverse continent for anyone dreaming of an escape,” shares Lonely Planet’s Asia-Pacific Media Spokesperson Chris Zeiher. And truer words haven’t been said, considering the diverse motley of landscapes, cultures, languages, traditions and more brimming within the continent.

“Our experts have combed through thousands of recommendations to pick the best destinations to visit over the next 12 months.”

“From Nagasaki in Japan to Arugam Bay in Sri Lanka,” Chris says, “this is a line-up to inspire a multitude of travellers – whether they’re based in Asia, or maybe they’ve already visited some of the region’s heavy-hitting destinations.”
