The ultimate gastronomic experience for any foodie is back in town for the 18th year running. From gourmet food to excellent wines – Here’s what to expect.

It is the 21st century’s answer to a Roman bacchanalia – albeit only with the sumptuousness intact and minus the wild excesses. We’re talking about the World Gourmet Summit, which is the epitome of all the best epicurean delights Nero would have given his eyetooth for.

Think Michelin-star chefs, impeccably prepared multiple-course meals at themed dinners and artisan wine tastings, served to you at some of Singapore’s leading restaurants and hotel venues – the 18th edition of the World Gourmet Summit (WGS) promises to offer all that and more.

The annual event is held in Singapore, and runs over the course of 11 days at various world-class venues in Singapore – including Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons Hotel, The Fullerton Hotel, The St. Regis, Grand Hyatt and the Raffles Hotel.

In addition, 22 Partner Restaurants and more than 12 hosting establishments are working towards an extraordinary event this year, with their special WGS menus and culinary events. This year’s summit, organized by À La Carte Productions (a division of Peter Knipp Holdings Pte Ltd), will run from the 26th of March to the 5th of April, with Citibank Singapore Limited and Singapore Tourism Board, as its presenting partners. The event offers not only a fabulous dining experience but also showcases and celebrates the culinary achievements of some of the world’s top-tier chefs.

This year’s accolades will be handed out on the last day of the event and will honour 29 of the epicurean industry’s best in Asia, including chefs from restaurants we hold in high esteem, here in Singapore.

2013’s World Gourmet Summit saw about 20,000 people gracing the event, establishing it as one of the most successful events of last year. This year’s theme focuses on ‘The Classics’, in a bid to up the ante. While focusing on food and service quality of the highest order, this year’s event, as the title suggests, ‘promises to satisfy the most discerning of palates and to create the most gastronomic dining experience for all food connoisseurs and wine aficionados’. In addition to having some of last year’s events return this year, a variety of new events have been thrown into the mix to add to WGS’s – under the purview of CEO Peter Knipp – ever-evolving gastronomic vision. In addition to the exclusive dinners, that are priced anywhere from SGD80++ (approx. USD64) to SGD928 (approx. USD732) there are also jam sessions with world-renown chefs that are priced at SGD70++ (approx. USD55) and above. A delightful inclusion to the festivities this year includes a special Junior Chefs’ Pastry Workshop, conducted by Chef Escribà and wife Patricia Schmidt, so event-goers can now make a family affair of it.

So if you’re looking forward to a gastronomic experience of a lifetime, this is an event not to be missed, at any cost.
