Bali welcomes its first ever hot air balloon ride over Ubud’s lush landscapes

Fancy flying over Ubud’s scenic rice fields and lush forests with the majestic Mount Agung in the distance?

Let’s face it – you doesn’t need much convincing to visit Indonesia’s island of Bali. It has, after all, some of the world’s best beaches and food, iconic rice fields, amazing hotels and more. Now, Bali enthusiasts have something else to include on their travel itinerary: a hot air balloon ride.

The Chedi Club Ubud in Bali has introduced the island’s latest adventure option: a hot air balloon ride that will take travelers 50-metres high over Ubud’s unrivaled natural landscapes of lush forests and rice fields.

Surprisingly, this will be a first for Bali. “Bali’s got it all — beaches, temples, volcanoes, rice paddies, puppets, dancers, sacred forests, but no balloons,” said Deasy Swandarini, general manager of The Chedi Club Ubud. “You might capture the same images with a drone, but seeing it with your own eyes is something else entirely.”

The 23-metre hot air balloon will fly 50-metres above the resort’s rice fields and floats at the end of a tether offering passengers views the forests of Ubud, Hendra Hadiprana (now The Chedi Club), and Mount Agung in the distance. Needless to say, it’s pretty epic stuff.

Touted as a ‘soft adventure’ option for those who aren’t up for thrill-seeking activities like skydiving or paragliding, there are daily flights scheduled three times a day: at dawn, in the late afternoon or early evening, and just after moonrise. Each balloon ride can accommodate a maximum of two adults and two children (under 12), together with a certified pilot.

And if feasting your eyes on the views aren’t enough, passengers will also be treated to a breakfast, afternoon tea, or dinner at the end of the ride, depending on their flight times. According to The Chedi Club Ubud, each flight lasts between five to seven minutes and will be only offered between June and November.

Epic views with a food-filled ending to boot – doesn’t get any better than that, does it?

The Chedi Club Ubud’s hot air balloons are priced at USD150 for each morning and afternoon trip (breakfast or lunch for two included), and USD200 for the final flight (dinner for two included).
