From ‘I Do’ to Reception: How to do the bridal outfit change?

You don’t have to have more than one wedding dress if you don’t want to! Here are some tips on how you can switch it up a little to stay comfortable.

Here’s one for all our minimalist brides! You’re probably the kind to pick the simplest, most understated of dresses because all you’ve got on your mind is the overwhelming pouring of love you’ll feel on your wedding day. The way you look is important, but it comes second to you. At the same time, you want to be comfortable throughout your wedding without shelling out on something new that you might not wear ever again.

We hear you, so here are some solutions to your little dilemma.

LOOK FOR A CONVERTIBLE DRESS

Dresses that go from long to short in minutes have been on the rise and are an incredible convenience to practical brides. Check with your favourite bridal studio if they have any convertible dresses, so you can spend minimal time in the dressing room and go back to enjoying the party!

DON’T WEAR A DRESS

We’ve covered understated wedding dress options before, and we still stand by the opinion that you don’t have to wear a dress for your wedding. If you’re not too fond of dresses, don’t feel the need to conform to the bride mould and instead opt for a two-piece ensemble or a comfortable but extravagant jumpsuit. A top-and-ball-gown-skirt combo for the wedding ceremony can then be switched up with a pair of trousers to allow more movement for the plenty of dancing that might ensue!

GO SHORT ALL THE WAY

If even the thought of a convertible dress sounds like too much of a hassle to you, you might want to consider going short for the entire shindig. A playful white cocktail dress with details like lace, macrame, tulle or embellishments will still differentiate you as the bride among the crowd, so don’t worry too much about accidentally blending in.

WEAR WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE

Change into a dress or outfit that you already own after saying your vows. To make sure none of your friends recognise that you’re wearing your favourite LBD (little black dress) or satin top, make some adjustments to it like adding embellishments such as rhinestones, lace strips or a new fabric on top.

ADD A COVER UP

Put on a cardigan or fitted blazer over a shoulder-baring dress to add some chic factor to your reception look. Celebs like Keira Knightley and Olivia Palermo have proven the look is nothing short of elegant and can even add a little more modesty to the otherwise revealing look.
