Why could going on holiday alone be good? Discover the opinion of Christine Arbisio, psychoanalyst.

IS TRAVELLING ALONE A  SIGN OF AN INDEPENDENT SPIRIT?

Christine Arbisio: The more this independence is claimed or looked for, the more we can wonder about the sense of this need; do we feel so confined or threatened  in a relationship that it would be necessary to leave alone by cutting off contact with people for a while? It is sometimes in the relationship with the mother that it is necessary to question this need for solitude.

IS IT EGOISM, AS OTHERS CLAIM?

Some women travel alone because they have not found a friend to accompany them. It is not a choice, at first. They are rather endowed with a beautiful vital energy, not wanting to miss a beautiful journey just because they are alone.

BEYOND THE SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE, WHAT DOES TRAVELLING FAR AWAY MEAN?

Some had expat or traveller parents. They travel far as a way of finding their childhood – a lost paradise. For others, the journey is a way of valuing themselves and, sometimes, even, of starting a kind of competition, if such is their usual functioning. From this comes the famous “Challenge”.
