Watch Wanted: Chanel Mademoiselle Privé Coromandel Glyptic
mis à jour le 6 October 2015 à 22:28
Crafted with an ancient Egyptian technique to showcase the immense attention to detail, let's just say this timepiece is going on our list.
Why we love it:
Chanel has never failed to impress us with the sheer mastery of creation. With the finest enamellers, engravers, carvers and stone-setters on hand, it's evident just how exquisite the Métier d’Art craftsmanship in in Fine Watchmaking and High Jewellery is. Now, in the latest collection of Mademoiselle Privé timepieces, inspired by Coco Chanel's life, the Coromandel Glyptic is particularly striking.
Beyond simply being a stunner to look at, it's worthy to note that the watch faces are crafted based on an ancient Egyptian jewellery technique, the glyptic. The art involves realistically sculpting semi-precious stones to appear as though the birds and flowers are popping out in 3 dimensions. And the nimble hands that go into creating it shouldn't be brushed aside either as each dial takes more than 100 hours to complete. In coral, turquoise, cornaline and lapis lazuli, the beauty is definitely on the face itself.
From the incredible attention to details to the incomparable craftsmanship that goes into imagining each piece and the brilliant inspirations behind them, we definitely wouldn't mind owning one of these works of art for a timepiece.
