Can skin diseases be treated by psychologists as well?

Marie, 47.

“My psoriasis appeared in childhood and remained for a long time, located discreetly in the scalp. Living a stable life, I resigned myself to live with the condition. Several dermatologists assured me there was nothing that could be done. Then patches appeared on my body and my face. I read an article on dermato-psychiatry, and consulted a specialist. Finally, a doctor listened to me and understood my suffering!

Gradually, I understood my incapacity to attach limits to an anguished husband who always relied on me, and to say no to an intrusive family. Raised not ‘to listen to myself’, I realised that these rashes appeared during times of stress; for example, after the death of a friend, and my miscarriage. I learnt not to direct my anger at myself. My husband reacted well and we began the process of adoption. The psoriasis then declined in a spectacular way!”
