Want softer and manageable hair? We uncover the best way to apply conditioner with our round up of hair conditioners to try.

We all crave for soft, shiny and manageable hair – just like what you see in all the hair commercials. This process begins with finding the best conditioner for your hair. But just what does a conditioner do?

WHAT IS IT:

A conditioner is used to nourish, repair and soften your hair. It can also be used as a pre-hair care step before blow drying or using your hot tools. The conditioner coats the hair surface protecting it from excessive heat. It is often using after shampooing.

DO I NEED IT?

Yes. Shampoos are normally loaded with cleansing properties which will do a great job at cleansing your scalp and hair but might also strip it of its moisture. A conditioner is used to replenish the hair’s natural protective oils. It is best used in combination with a shampoo which removes excess build up.

HOW MUCH DO I NEED?

Given that conditioners pack a punch when it comes to formula, you need just a dime-sized amount depending on your hair length. Conditioners are often loaded with oils and moisturizing agents, so a little definitely goes a long way. Using more than what is required can weigh your hair down when rinsed off and clog the pores of your hair follicles.

HOW DO I BEST APPLY CONDITIONER?

Start off by rinsing all traces of shampoos on your hair. Your hair is most brittle in its wet form, so be careful to not tug at your hair. This might result in breakage. Follow this by wringing your hair out to get rid of any excess water. Applying conditioner on soaking wet hair may cause the product to slip. Next, squeeze a dime-sized amount of conditioner and massage the product in between your palms to warm it up. Run the product through the end of your hair (where they are the most damaged). You should avoid putting conditioner near your scalp and roots as it might clog the pores of your hair follicles resulting in increased oil production and even pimples. Lastly allow the conditioner to set for 2-3 minutes before rinsing it off well.

Wring your hair out and towel dry to enjoy smooth and nourished hair. Head over to the gallery up top for a round up of hair conditioners try for gorgeous looking hair.
