Believe it or not, it is possible to transform your flat hair into locks with beautiful bouncy volume.

There’s a subtle difference between a sleek and a limp hairdo. Sleek evokes sophistication while limp hair just looks as though your hair is clinging onto your scalp like it’s afraid to fall off.

The sickly look of flat, limp hair is a maddening struggle for women who have naturally fine hair. And as if gravity wasn’t enough, we also have to deal with the unforgiving Singaporean weather.

Products like hairspray or mousse are hardly magical quick fixes as humidity and heat melts the waxes and oils, leaving them to weigh down your hair even more.

Does it all seem for naught? Don’t worry it isn’t. Before you do something extreme like get an outdated perm, try some of these tips that will help you achieve the maximum airy bounce your tresses can muster.

Cut Your Hair

Yes, we said not to do anything drastic, but opting for a shorter do is one of the best ways to rid yourself of flat hair syndrome for good. Longer hair tends to weigh itself down because of its weight; so giving your hair a trim takes some burden off your hair. You don’t necessarily have to chop your hair up to your ears – leaving your hair just hovering above the shoulder is good enough.

Change your sleeping habits

It is very important not to sleep with wet hair, as it will make your hair look even flatter come morning. Instead, dry hair completely then put it in a braid or a relaxed bun to avoid the flattening effect. For extra oomph, try spraying dry shampoo, directly into your roots before bed. The powders will absorb excess oil overnight, leaving you with fresher and lighter hair in the morning.

Make gravity work for you

Another quick trick to get voluminous hair is to blow dry your tresses upside down. Doing so helps give your roots a much needed lift off. When hair is about 75% dry, continue to blow dry standing upright while holding the roots up. Remember that hot air molds and cold air freezes it in place, so toggle between temperatures to achieve the best results.

Use a lightweight heavyweight

Selecting a shampoo and condition is crucial for fine hair. Always look out for lightweight products as such products do not weigh hair down with excessive residue, and will leave your hair feeling bouncy and fresh after a wash.

Keep a root spray handy

Unfortunately, even with all these tips, it is a fact that fine hair suffers under the humidity. This causes them to get flat real fast. To remedy this problem, invest in a root spray to give your hair a boost throughout the day.
