All that glitters will make your makeup pop – here are 10 ways to hop onto the trend without looking like a glitter bomb exploded on you.

What girl doesn’t love a little glitter? While looking all sparkly adds to the glamour, the art of incorporating glitter into your makeup look can tend to get slightly tricky. Fret not! With these 5 tips, you’ll be rocking the glitter trend with ease.

TIP 1: GO EASY ON THE GLITER

No one wants an episode of glitter overload because it’s very easy to get carried away when applying glitter. Not only can a glitter bomb end up making you look like a disco ball but it can also get messy. If you tend to struggle with products in loose powder form, opt for glitter in a liquid stick. To apply loose glitter, use a flat synthetic brush easily available at makeup stores or even your local craft stores.

TIP 2: CHOOSE WHICH AREA TO ‘GLITTER-FY’

When deciding how much to apply, choose 1 of the many features on your face to sparkle. If you’re adding glitter to your eyes, keep the rest of your face free from glitter or shimmery products. This way the emphasis will only be on your eyes.

Applying glitter is not only restrictive to your eye makeup. From glitter glosses to nail polishes and even shimmer body powders, there’s an endless array of possibilities to look glitzy.

TIP 3: APPLY GLITTER BASED ON OCCASION

While there is no hard or fast rule, sparkly glitter is best applied on an evening/ night look to draw attention. If you wish to apply glitter during the day, opt for a simpler option such as a frosty lipstick on the inner part of your lips, glitter nail polish or even glitter lip gloss. This would be sure to add some fun to your day time look while still making it appear appropriate.

TIP 4: APPLICATION

To apply loose glitter pigments or powders, prep your eyelids with glitter glue first before dabbing on the product. Alternatively, you could give your makeup brush a spritz of makeup setting spray and pick up the glitter product prior to applying it onto your lids.

TIP 5:SET YOUR MAKEUP LOOK

As with any makeup product, there is a tendency for it to wear off. Seal your work of art with a makeup setting spray and dust off any loose sparkle around your face with a large fluffy brush. For unruly sparkle under your eyes, use a piece of slightly sticky tape (you can reduce the stickiness of the tape by peeling it off continuously on the back off your hand) to pick up the product.

So there you have it! 5 easy tips to ensure the longevity of your glitzy look and if you need inspiration, head over to the gallery up top for our round up of 10 fun glitter looks to try.
