We’ve all been there at some point or another and even if you have not, trust us when we it’s frustrating to see your favourite makeup drop to the flow and crash into smithereens. A part of you wishes for a split second that the product is still intact but the laws of makeup prove otherwise. All you’re left with is a powdery mess and loads of annoyance. Now you can either choose to throw the product out or with our tips, fix the mess and restore it to perfection.

Before you get started though, round up the following tools – rubbing alcohol, plastic wrap, spatula or a mixing too, dropper and a synthetic eyeliner brush.

STEP 1: WRAP IT ALL UP

The first step is to make use of a plastic wrap to cover the product. Gather all the fallout and push it into the compact. Ensure that the plastic wrap adheres well to the compact case, making it almost air tight. This is crucial for the next step.

STEP 2: MASH AWAY

Channel that inner frustration into this step. Using your spatula, mash up the product stored away in the compact. Essentially you want to crush the product into powder form, that includes all the broken pieces. Think of it as transforming your pressed product into a loose powder.

STEP 3: USE RUBBING ALCOHOL

Remove the plastic wrap carefully and add at least 10-12 drops of rubbing alcohol using a dropper. This may vary for different products. A small eyeshadow pan may require lesser drops while a powder foundation might require a dozen drops based on its size.

STEP 4: PRESS THE PRODUCT FLAT

Using your spatula, spread the product towards the edges just as you would do while applying jam on bread.  It is important to ensure that the surface is as even as possible.

STEP 5: ADD THE FINISHING TOUCHES

There might be some rough edges but you can easily clean it up using a small eyeliner brush. It is advisable to use a synthetic eyeliner brush to clean up the perimeters of the compact. Once done, allow the product to dry for a few hours under room temperature.

While we cannot promise that your product might look the same as it was before, it will work just as well once dried. It is key to demonstrate patience while fixing broken makeup. This simple beauty hack of using rubbing alcohol can be used on any broken powdered makeup product.
