Bangs are supposedly hard to maintain but they’re also hard to resist getting. Here are some quick and simple ways to help you with problematic bangs.

Bangs sure look cute on stars like Zooey Deschanel and Rashida Jones, and some of you probably got your bangs cut because of these celebrities. That’s all fine and good, but probably none of us have the luxury of a professional hair and makeup team, and we live in Singapore, which can reach highs of 90% humidity on some days. So, before you get snipping, here are 5 tricks and quick fixes to get your bangs through the day.

1. Trim your own bangs

On a person to person case basis, hair can grow quickly or slowly. If your hair grows fairly fast, sooner or later your bangs are going to be tickling your eyes. Save money and time, by trimming them yourself.

Simply tie the rest of your hair in a ponytail, sit in front of a mirror with good lighting and divide them into sections. Be careful, because you can accidentally cut away too much. It’s best for your hair to be dry when you trim your bangs, because when hair is wet it appears longer.

2. Accessorize

If you cut bangs and plan to grow them out, but they keep poking you in the eyes, it’s time to jazz it up with some accessories. Bring out a few bobby pins or a hair band everyday and style it up.

You can always do a simple pin/ push up, but if that gets dull after a while, you can go on Pinterest for more bang on inspiration to style your fringe.

3. Side sweep

If you’re growing out your bangs but don’t like to pin it up, sweep it to the side. Bangs that go straight down are cute, but the ones that are side swept can look elegant and cool too.

This is a common trick for people who plan to grow them out, and it’s very useful for those who prefer minimal effort and accessories.

4. Gel it up

Now, it’s not what you think. Bangs are hard to keep in place throughout the day, and we know this. Well, there is a very simple solution to keeping your hair in place.

Start with wet bangs, and separate them into four sections. Then put a tiny bit of medium-hold gel onto each section. Lastly, blow dry the bangs using a small round brush in a diagonal direction to the side you want to wear them.

5. Keep them flat

Humidity is torture for hair in Singapore, and it’s even worse for bangs, but there is a simple way to fix that.

Use a serum and spread it evenly through your bangs with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Blow dry your bangs on medium or low heat, concentrating on your bangs while you brush them. Continue to brush the bangs down to keep them straight and flat throughout the day.
