Fancy a DIY? Try this for yourself if you’re wondering what’s all the hype with matte liquid lipsticks.

You may have heard of the loose-powder-over-lipstick trick, but the whole ball game has been changed since we discovered an even better alternative: eyeshadows. Patting an eyeshadow colour of your choice over a creamy, glossy or satin-finish lipstick creates the most matte, longest wearing lip colour that will have everyone around you throwing all the best compliments.

This works best when you match the eyeshadow shade to your lip colour, but we’re not stopping you from experimenting. Adding a bright colour over a nude lipstick in order to get a pastel version of the shade is a clever choice, and lip balm works in place of a lip colour just as well.

Take it as a test drive of the highly-raved liquid lipstick trend if you’re only just jumping on the bandwagon. If you don’t like the texture or feel that matte lips just isn’t your look, throw on a gloss on top or swipe a lip balm over the eyeshadow. We’ve found a simple pictorial you can follow above, plus some multi-colour palettes and lipsticks to start you off on.
