Move over uncomfortable and drying lipsticks. These liquid lipsticks have taken over the beauty world by storm and you might just end up falling in love like we have.
When liquid lipsticks were first introduced to the shores of beauty world, they were relatively unknown and written off for being drying, patchy and above all uncomfortable. Fast forward a few years and almost every brand – both drugstore and high end – are releasing liquid lipsticks. Not only has the formulation of these products improved tremendously but they are also available in a wide variety of shades – 10 points for that!
What is so special about the formulation of a liquid lipstick? Well it contains the pigment of a lipstick (think of it as a melted lipstick bullet) and provides the glide you would expect out of a lip gloss, minus the sticky and tacky after-feel.
While most liquid lipsticks are opaque and get the job done in one swipe, there are a section of these wonder products which work to provide buildable coverage. You can layer it to achieve a more pigmented colour pay off – perfect for those looking to achieve a stain or a wash of colour instead of a bold lip look.
Pros & Cons of liquid lipsticks
The immense lasting power of these products is definitely a tick in our books and they set fairly quickly. Although we appreciate that, it has also paved the way for two disadvantages in disguise. Due to its quick setting ability, you will have to work fast when applying the product. There is hardly any room for mistakes. Once the colour has set outside of your lip line, it stains the skin and might require the use of a makeup remover. Also, the long lasting ability of the product might lead it to be drying. Hence it is always advisable to prep your lips with lip balm prior to application.
