Designers pulled out all the stops with beauty this season where experimentation was the name of the game. Read on for the daring trends we can’t get enough of.

It seems that designers always wait until the Couture season to pull out all the stops on the hair and makeup looks. Understated beauty is usually the go-to for designers, to appeal to their high-flying clients (they don’t have the time to get too primped anyway, jet-setting and all). The no-makeup makeup looks of ready-to-wear were deliberately forgotten while the creative flow was set to run wild and free during this season’s presentations.

As with couture, the beauty looks at the Fall 2015 shows didn’t stop short of being just as avant-garde. A stark difference from the previous understated Resort season, the hair and makeup at every show were amped up with injections of colour and bold shapes.

A LOT, BUT NEVER TOO MUCH

Bold eye-and-lip pairings were apparent at various shows. Despite the daring looks, they were incredibly wearable – if you’re the experimental type that is. Opt for mature and sultry like the models at Ulyana Sergeenko with heavily-lined eyes and red lips, or look a little more fun and in-the-know with smokey grey eyes and bright pink puckers like the girls at Armani. Channel your inner nymph with pale green lids and a barely-there pout, as seen at Schiaperelli.

ORANGE YOU GLAD

Orange was the colour of the moment as it stood out against glowing, healthy-looking skin at some shows. Lips were pigmented and precisely-lined with the citrus hue at Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel while it was sheer and soft on the eyes at Dior.

ELFIN TENDENCIES

The makeup artists at the fashion houses of Dior, Versace, Valentino and Fendi all gave us looks to try with pretty, elf-like eye looks in olive, nude and silver. Recreating it is easy – just buff on the colour with a blending brush all over the eyelids and you’re good to go.

BOLD AND BLUE

The makeup at the Maison Margiela show deserves a special mention  – no two were the same. Carefully-painted Picasso-like shapes were seen on the faces of some models, while the colour was also taken onto the eyes from lash line to brow bone in striking blue blocks. Lips weren’t spared either, as some male models (yes, male) sported the cobalt hue on their pouts.

The same shade was lined on the eyes of the girls at Jean-Paul Gaultier, giving a playful new take on the Paris-girl vibe when paired with berets and nautical stripes.
