Watch: Here’s 100 Years of Chinese beauty in 1 minute

From internal influences to inspiration from the West, Hong Kong and Korea, here’s how beauty looks have evolved over the years in China.

We’ve seen 100 years of Korean, American and Indian beauty amongst many others and well, it’s only time that Cut came around to doing a similar video for Chinese beauty.

Starting from the 1910s which featured a middle-part bangs hairstyle reflective of middle class women to the 20s where the wavy bob was inspired from the West right down to Shanghai girl of the 30s and eventually the rejection of Western influence from the 50s onwards.

As the clip moves through the decades, you’ll see just how the beauty looks were not solely influenced by events in China itself but by Hong Kong drama series, K-pop and of course American or European movies.

If you want to know more about the looks, check out the research that went into selecting them here.
