Dismaland: Watch the trailer for Banksy’s dystopian world

updated the 30 August 2015 à 20:24

Instead of going to the happiest place on Earth, Dismaland is the one place to go for the most artistic parody of Disneyland.

First things first, everyone knows Disneyland as the happiest place on Earth where legions of people go to for fancy themed rides, walking, breathing Disney characters and well all the brilliant photo-ops with magnificent fireworks by night.

Now, Banksy’s – the reclusive graffiti artist –  view of that happy place is far from smiles. In fact, his latest installation, apty titled, ‘Dismaland’ is a ‘bemusement park’ with grim reapers, dead Cinderellas and rickety rides no one in their right one would gleefully hop on. Taking his work one step further, the artist dropped a trailer to the venue that shows an idyllic British family packing up and driving down to Dismaland to fill ‘something missing in their lives’.

Thereafter, you see the confused faces of the family as they make their way through an empty carpark and security with grumpy employees. What is nonetheless sheer genius is Banksy’s ability to capture political commentary within his art work, from feminism to the refugees fleeing on boats and capitalism. After all, if there’s one person you can trust to create a giant parody of Disneyland, it has to be Banksy. Theme parks have never been this creative now have they?

So as is said in the trailer, “What are you waiting for?”

Banksy’s Dismaland features the works of 58 artists including Damien Hirst and Jenny Holzer, and will run till 27 September.
