Feeling Nuts: The latest health challenge sweeping the web

We spent the summer watching celebrities pour a bucket of ice water over their heads as part of the Ice Bucket Challenge. Now we’ll see them grab their crotches to raise awareness on men’s testicular cancer. Must we say thank you to this latest craze?

It looks like charities and health groups have found a new and very effective way to raise awareness for worthy causes. After the Ice Bucket Challenge, here comes the Feeling Nuts Challenge! The idea: to grab the genitals, take a photo and nominate three others to do the same. The goal: to raise awareness of testicular cancer and encourage men to self-examine to check that everything is normal. Indeed, when caught at early stages, testicular cancer has great chances of being treated. Hence the importance of screening.

With thousands of videos posted on the web, The Ice Bucket Challenge was undoubtedly a success. But for whom exactly? For the stars who took part and made ​​the buzz, no doubt. For the association behind the campaign as well, since 3 million donors have signed a check for a total of more than $100 million (against only 3 million the previous year). Feeling Nuts may well go the same way, because currently already more than 6 million photos are circulating on the web via the hashtag #FeelingNuts. Not to mention the fact that people have to nominate others, hence increasing the public interest. We have no doubt that other associations will easily find ideas for other challenges (should they be so stupid, that is the question…), but does it just blur the message?
