My Girl (1991)
Vada Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky) is an 11 year-old girl whose father runs a funeral parlour. Her mom died giving birth to her and she grew up to think she killed her. Vada found a companion in Thomas J. Sennett (Macaulay Culkin), who is allergic to everything. As the story unfolds, Vada has to deal with a great deal of grief no 11 year-old should endure.

Based on a true story, Titanic is a classic tearjerker. The ill-fated vessel hits an iceberg and sinks, but not before aristocrat Rose Dewitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) falls in love with poor artist Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), and learns what it's like to sacrifice for love.

I am Sam (2001)
Sam Dawson (Sean Penn) is a mentally handicapped man and a father to 7 year-old Lucy Diamond (Dakota Fanning). Problems brew as Lucy grows older and starts to outsmart Dawson. The movie tells of Dawson's touching, unconditional love as a father as he fights for custody of Lucy, whilst teaching his lawyer the value of love and family.

A Walk to Remember (2002)
Popular high school kid Landon Carter (Shane West) is sent to after-school community service activities as punishment for his mischief, where he meets the Reverend's daughter, Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore). The two started spending time together despite their striking differences. And this is where you should grab your tissues: Landon falls for Jamie and learns a heartbreaking secret that puts their relationship on the line.

The Notebook (2004)
Every teardrop is a waterfall when it comes to watching The Notebook. Duke, a resident of a care facility, pays daily visits to fellow resident Ms. Hamilton, who has Alzheimer's. He always tells her the same story from his notebook. It's about the love shared by Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie (Rachel McAdams), a love that faces so many hardships it will have you bursting into tears as the story progresses.

P.S. I Love You (2007)
The dreamy Gerrard Butler plays Gerry, husband to Holly (Hilary Swank) who later dies of an illness and leaves his wife widowed. But before he dies, thoughtful as he is, Gerry writes Holly a series of letters that would be delivered in the most surprising ways. The letters, always signed off with a 'P.S. I Love You' are intended to help Holly through her grief. Not sure if we're crying because Gerry died or because we're touched by how thoughtful a husband he makes.

Marley & Me (2008)
If you're planning to watch Marley & Me, remember not to use any eye makeup becuase your tears will smudge it by the end of the movie. John Grogan (Owen Wilson) gives his wife Jennifer (Jennifer Aniston) an adorable puppy they named Marley. The Golden Retriever is a nightmare to every dog owner with its rambunctious demeanour. But soon the family learns the meaning of family and that a dog is indeed a man's best friend.

The Boy in Striped Pajamas (2008)
The WWII movie tells the story of an innocent 8 year-old called Bruno (Asa Butterfield), who is the son of the commander at a concentration camp. He builds a friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence. We couldn't hold back our tears as the improbable friendship blooms, withstanding the hardships of war.

My Sister’s Keeper (2009)
My Sister's Keeper is a live adaptation of a novel by Jodi Picoult of the same title. We are torn between emphatising with Anna Fitzgerald (Abigail Breslin), who is fighting for medical emancipation, or her mother (Cameron Diaz) who must put up with this and another daughter, who has Leukemia. But your conflicting emotions will culminate into a full-blown cry as the story unravels.

The Fault in our Stars (2014)
Teenage romantic drama The Fault in Our Stars shows two cancer-stricken teenagers (Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort) who fall in love after meeting at a cancer support group. The movie tugs at your heartstrings when the two delve into a relationship where each silently wonders who's going to lose the cancer battle first, and what it would be like without each other.

Grab your TV remote and plenty of tissues because these movies will definitely have tears rolling down your cheeks almost instantaneously.

Following a recent scientific discovery that women bond well over weepy movies, we picked our all-time favourite tearjerkers to watch.

Research by Cardiff University in the UK revealed that sad movies allow females to share emotions with each other and leave feeling more positive. This explains why us girls find it weirdly satisfying to have a good cry over a sad movie. While science has understood why females enjoy sappy sentimental flicks, the idea is still — and might forever be — incomprehensible to most men out there.
