Trailer: Robert De Niro works for Anne Hathaway in ‘The Intern’

Age is just a number so watch as the 70 year-old Robert De Niro heads up an internship for an online fashion magazine run by Anne Hathaway in the upcoming comedy.

Typically, the concept of interning is reserved for young individuals who are either still in school or freshly graduated and are looking to chock up experience in their future field of work.

However, age is not about to stop Robert De Niro (Ben Whittaker), who plays the retired and widowed 70 year-old looking for a way to fill his time in the upcoming movie, The Intern. To do that, he stepped right into the very young and relatively casual offices of an online fashion site, founded by Anne Hathaway’s character, Jules Ostin. Wouldn’t Miranda Priestly of The Devil Wears Prada be proud?

Directed and written by Nancy Meyers, the comedy eventually develops into a charming relationship between the two where De Niro is seen doling out sagely words of wisdom while Hathaway injects hints of youth into his character. While the story of age gaps and older workers as interns may not be entirely new – think Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn’s The Internship – this particular one is slightly more promising in delivering the message that greying hair does not matter as long as you can offer something wholly different to the workspace.

As their tagline goes, ‘Experience never gets old.’

The Intern is set to be released in cinemas on 24 September.
