We may have spent quite a bit this year but as we look back at our purchases, we found the one that was truly worth every cent.

We’re just a week away from popping champagne bottles and admiring extravagant firework displays as we usher in a brand new year. But before that, we’re taking a look back into 2014 and sieving out our favourite purchases of the year – trust us, it was hard to just pick one and clearly, we have a love for shoes.

Opal Ring

“Yes I’ve splurged a little this year, but haven’t we all? My best buy however has to be the opal ring I bought myself as a birthday gift in the summer. I’ve always loved opals, somehow the stone always amuses me with its ever-changing colours and intensity that I would pick it over diamonds any day. This ring is so special to me as I helped design, hence it is one of a kind. The irregular-shaped stone which changes colours at every angle caught my eye in a vintage jewellery shop and was set in a gaudy OTT ring but the lovely owner agreed to take the stone out and make me a simple rose gold setting instead. I now wear it everyday and believe everyone should have that one piece of jewellery that they never take off. I’m so happy I found mine!”

“It’s a known fact that I love books and I love reading – from novels to biographies and historical texts – these bounded pages and me are a pair made in heaven. After saying all that, I know it’d be somewhat blasphemous to then say that I enjoy reading on my kindle. The horror. But the thing is for days when I absolutely have no idea what to read and thus have no idea which book to bring out, my nifty kindle comes in handy. Sure, it’s not the same joy as holding a book in your hands but it’ll have to do when my bag just cannot fit my entire library of books in it. ”

ASOS Docklands Plimsolls

“Not the most indulgent buy of 2014, but certainly the most practical. Once it reached my doorstep, it fast became my wardrobe staple and I’ve literally worn this pair of plimsolls to death. All credits to Karl Lagerfeld for giving the fashion world the green light to the universal acceptance of sneakers with dresses, skirts and the likes. Yay to saving my feet from the agony of merciless 5-inches while still looking chic and definitely not sloppy in my OOTDs – all thanks to the statement iridescent sheen on this pair of plimsolls!”

Nike Free 5.0

“Honestly? I mainly bought them because I fell in love with the neon pink colour and secondly because last year’s resolution was to adopt a healthier lifestyle. I’m just so happy with them – it’s the first pair of shoes that don’t not make my feet hurt like crazy after going for a run (okay, walk) and  I’ve managed to lose 7 kg this year, also thanks to these (pretty) ones!”

Adidas Stam Smith sneakers

“In one year, I have bought approximately 11 pair of shoes, 5 lipsticks, 9 purses, and my body weight worth of new tops. But only one of it means something special to me and that’s my Stan Smith sneakers. I’m in love with these shoes that remind me of primary school. I love its classic style, which adds a little trendy touch to every outfit. I purchased it this year because one of my first articles for Marie France was on these beauties and now it is like my lucky charm.”
