Feeling left out over the NYFW happenings? We fill you in on the trends to know during the week-long affair. Next up, London Fashion Week.

What a way to kick off fashion month – a jam-packed week of shows have flown by just as it began, and soon we’ll be reviewing London Fashion Week. The public has increasingly been involved in New York as the seasons come, leaving us to wonder if the other fashion capitals will catch on. For now though, we’ll fill you in on the action below.

PYJAMAS AS DAY WEAR

Daytime lingerie continues to be a theme fashion loves playing around with, as designers of Givenchy and Calvin Klein Collection toyed with satin and lace. Loose silhouettes induce our inner comfort-over-anything lazy bums with the use of wide leg trousers paired with flats and oversized robes that might have previously been only reserved for the bedroom.

ISLAND LIFE

Anna Sui drew inspiration from her Hawaiian getaway, Tommy Hilfiger looks to Bob Marley for his collection and DVF has her models walking down with flowers tucked behind their ears in true islander style. Fall up north indeed had these designers thinking of warmer days, especially for Spring 2016. So bust out your brightest pieces and have those string bikinis on hand – that is, once the haze dies down just a little more.

CHECK PARTY

Patterns are surprisingly tame at NYFW’s runways this time round, with sophisticated florals and stripes mostly taking over. However one particular print has been a standout feature on the runways of Jeremy Scott, Zac Posen and Victoria Beckham – checks. From oversized to modern mini versions, you might want to keep a look out for the trend to keep rising in the coming weeks.

BOWS

Ribbons never quite looked this pretty until now. Oscar de la Renta and Proenza Schouler adorned their collections with dainty, skinny bows that made major impact in each piece. Billowing gowns and delicate tops were given a touch of class that made them perfect for evening, while modern styling reigned at Proenza Schouler. Ribbons were the updated replacements to belts and pins as these bows cinched at the chest and waist, sometimes respectively and at times, simultaneously.

AMERICAN DREAM

Marc Jacobs was the talk of the town when he closed NYFW with a bang at the iconic Ziegfeld theatre, turning it into a fashion show venue with aisles as the runway. The stage held a large orchestra that played tunes of American movies from the past. The collection bore true American taste, with white, red and blue being the colours mainly used and pieces such as bomber jackets, sailor-inspired uniforms and power suits were statement items. The world was indeed treated to a feast for the eyes giving a peek into the New Yorker life, which leaves us to remember Givenchy’s contemplative show earlier in the week.
