Missed out on the week of shows and notable trends? We fill you in below.

What an incredible fashion month it has been! The fresh new trends have us all more excited than ever to ease into the Spring 2016 season, from the laid-back styles of New York, underground fashions of London, opulent Italian flair in Milan and now a bevy of culture-heavy trends in Paris.

Read about all the highlights below.

SEQUIN PARTY

The glitz and glam are having a moment in Spring 2016 as we see sequins reigning the runways of Saint Laurent and Lanvin. The former channeled morning-after party girls (perhaps even brides-to-be at their bachelorette parties?) as models wore sequinned slips with haphazardly worn coats and oversized jackets as though it was the first thing they reached for. Alber Elbaz didn’t skimp on his signature jewel-toned hues at Lanvin, playing up mermaid-like finishes and sheen for colour-blocked sequinned outfits we’re sure fashionistas will be sporting next season.

CULTURAL APPRECIATION

The debate between cultural appropriation and appreciation is one that will always be ongoing in society today, and designers were aware of that. Isabel Marant and Valentino took the risk anyway but made sure to do their extensive research before delving into collections inspired by Northern India and African refugees respectively. No stranger to tapping into cultures she’s lightly graced during her lifelong travels (just look to her aztec-inspired collection from a past season for proof), Isabel Marant dove into Rajasthan fabrics to make up most of the pieces for Spring 2016. Clunky sandals are about to be a thing next season as well. Valentino didn’t turn a blind eye to the current migration crisis going on in their home country Italy, so fused the clothing details of both Italian sources and African roots to create standout pieces.

SPORTY EDIT

Sports and fashion go hand-in-hand like never before as seen at Chloé and Stella McCartney. Besides the usual tracksuits and ribbed tanks, polo shirts fit for a day of golf or tennis appeal to the style-savvy sportswomen that are customers of the brands.

READY FOR TAKE-OFF

Karl Lagerfeld couldn’t go a single season without outdoing himself for the Chanel shows. Previous theatrics include a casino, a library, a supermarket… This time the Grand Palais was turned into a Chanel airport, complete with baggage check-in, counter staff and Zoeftig airport seats. While the clothes were, as expected, styled quirkily and in various innovations using the classic tweed fabric, we understand that the brand’s main aim was to showcase the accessibility of the label internationally.

WHAT WOULD KIM WEAR?

By that we mean none other than Kim Kardashian, so what better way to represent her wardrobe additions than long-time designer friend Olivier Rousteing of Balmain? Despite Kim and Kanye’s notable absence, the show was anything but disappointing and we’ve already crossed off predictions on the looks that would make it to Kim’s racks – fully beige, skin-tight, lots of mesh yet somewhat classy. Acne Studios also surprisingly has a number of looks that could make the cut, but we guess we’ll just have to follow her sartorial choices closely in the coming months.
