Chanel Spring 2016: Karl Lagerfeld defined airport chic at Paris Fashion Week

Chanel yet again sweeps us off our feet with impeccable show set up and an equally worthy collection.

A show unlike any other, Chanel’s Spring/ Summer 16 Ready-to-Wear was absolutely phenomenal. The visionary Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais in Paris into an airport, complete with check-in counters and departure boards. Hostesses and passengers headed to the great skies on ChaneL Airlines, carrying the new trolley, the “Coco Case”, as Karl Lagerfeld calls it, the “absolute” bag with its pure line, or an XXL version of the 11.12.

A luxury we are all foreign to, the collection features several shades of blue, from sky through to midnight, white, red, and grey, pink, black, and floral and multi-colour prints tweed, denim, leather, lace, guipure and ottoman. It was a melodious explosion of textures and colours that all came together beautifully. The silhouettes were clean and flowy, perfect for spring and summer where it starts to get warmer. Essentially, this collection is the embodiment of perfection.

The iconic Chanel suit becomes “the absolute suit”. It has no collar, no pockets, no braiding and no buttons, but you still can recognize it when you set your eyes on it. What was almost more spectacular than the outfits that were paraded across the runway, was the set up itself. It was so clean and beautifully lit, and it really looked like they had plucked a check-in area from an actual airport and placed it there.

Many celebrities including Chanel’s ambassadresses Vanessa Paradis and Lily-Rose Deep, Cara Delevingne, Kaya Scodelario, Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def, Janelle Monae, St Vincent, Say Loulou, Marine Vacth and Clotilde Hesme all came to be a part of the jaw-dropping experience.

Yet again, we have not been disappointed with what comes from the House of Chanel, and we doubt we ever will be.
