Alexander McQueen Pret-a-Portea: Afternoon tea with a twist

If you’re travelling to London this spring, don’t miss this fashion-inspired afternoon tea, set in conjunction with the opening of Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty exhibition at the V&A museum.

The traditional English Afternoon Tea is getting a makeover and a fashionable one at that, with some inspiration from the late British designer Alexander McQueen. To celebrate the launch of the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Berkeley in London’s fashionable Knightsbridge has launched their all new McQueen afternoon tea themed: ‘Savage Beauty Pret-a-Portea.’

Head pastry chef at The Berkeley, Mourad Khiat has put his own twist on the traditional Afternoon Tea with recreations of Alexander McQueen’s ‘armadillo’ shoes, a heeled chocolate biscuit with cream icing and edible sparks as well as the feather Butterfly Hat, a delicious dark chocolate mousse set on a  sablé breton glazed with a chocolate miroir and delicate red sugar butterflies. “Being inspired by world class fashion designers to create our Pret-a-Portea is always a highlight and with the launch of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty we’ve tried to create something quite unique paying homage to a wildly creative design genius and British legend.”

Other tempting fashionable delicacies include Moschino’s quirky ‘Yellow M’ handbag recreated with a blood orange Victoria sponge and Dolce & Gabbana’s night owl with blackcurrant bavarois and star anise panna cotta. Who said fashion isn’t for the masses? If you find yourself in London, be sure to check out the exhibition and of course, don’t miss the chance to indulge in these tasty treats.

Prêt-à-Portea is served in The Caramel Room at The Berkeley from 1-6pm every day priced at SGD84 per person (SGD100 including a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne or SGD113per person including a glass of couture champagne).
