In a bid to further improve their stance on sustainable fashion, the Swedish retailer has just released sixteen styles to their eco-friendly line.

This September, H&M will introduce 16 new denim styles made using recycled cotton from textiles collected in the Garment Collecting initiative in H&M stores. Started in 2013, the Garment Collecting initiative is part of H&M’s goal towards creating a closed loop for fashion and has allowed customers worldwide to bring unwanted clothes from any brand into its stores. The pieces are then recycled to be used in future collections and so far, over 14,000 tonnes have been collected globally.

The new denim pieces, made from recycled cotton and organic cotton features pieces for women, men and kids and are made under the retailer’s Close the Loop line. The new styles will range from distressed ‘girlfriend’ jeans for women to a pair of joggers in coated denim for the men to a zip-up hoodie with cute animal ears for the kids, to name a few.

While only 20 percent of the cotton used in this collection comes from collected clothes, H&M is investing in new technology to increase this share without losing quality. The retailer has set a goal to increase the number of garments made with at least 20% recycled fabric by 300% compared to 2014. It hopes that by doing so, it is able to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry and save on natural resources used in the production of fabric.

This collection is slated to be released worldwide but expect something different in Singapore. In conjunction with the Close The Loop initiative and collection launch, H&M has invited a group of LASALLE students to takeover a window display at the H&M Orchard Building flagship store. The window display will feature handcrafted installations made with recycled denim to convey the impact of recycling and will be up from 3 to 29 September 2015.

So the big question is, have you donated your unwanted clothes yet?

The new denim styles will be available from 3 September 2015 in all stores worldwide.
