Tribute: New York City street to be renamed after Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta passed away from cancer last October 2014 at the age of 82 and this year the Big Apple is celebrating his brilliance with a street named after him.

Many celebrities, models and famous actors associated with the fashion industry have paid their homage to the fashion icon, Oscar de la Renta for his sheer expertise in design and creation. The man will remain a symbol of femininity, refinement and glamour; inspiring the fashion world forever. But that’s not all.

Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York, decided on 11 February to also honour the memory of the ‘Father of American Fashion’ by renaming a New York City street after Oscar de la Renta. “He brought such joy to all he did. He will be forever ingrained in the fabric of this city”, he asserted at an event to promote the city’s investment in the local fashion industry.

Oscar de la Renta Boulevard will be located in the Bronx, at the intersection of East Fordham Road and Creston Avenue.

May this renamed street be as creative, joyful and vibrant as the name it bears!
