The newly minted SGFW is promising to be quite the celebration of women in the industry as well as a space for brilliant designers to show their latest collections. Here’s who and what to expect!

While international fashion weeks have mostly come to a close – at least for New York, London, Milan and Paris – there’s one that’s yet to arrive which is the newly re-named Singapore Fashion Week (SFW).

Running from 13 – 17 May, the 5 day long event aims to be a grand celebration of women in fashion with their stellar lineup that includes Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)’s president, Diane von Furstenburg and joining her is none other than the effortlessly put together British designer, Victoria Beckham. Additionally, two other equally remarkable women coming on board are Academy Award-winning actress and SK-II ambassador, Cate Blanchett alongside the adorable yet impeccably stylish founder of Buro 24/7, Miroslava Duma. Lastly, South Korean actress and L’Oreal Professional spokesperson, Yoon Eun Hye will also be in attendance. Clearly, this year, girl power is the overarching central theme and we like it!

Rest assured, the hullabaloo doesn’t just end there for we’ll even get to witness for the first time in Singapore, Thai-American designer, Thakoon Panichgul. All of the aforementioned international designers will be showcasing their latest Fall/ Winter 2015 collections.

Having dressed the fascinating First Lady Michelle Obama and stars like Emma Stone and Katy Perry, Thakoon will also be joining Diane von Furstenburg in the SFW Fashion Talk Series with designers and audience members for insight into their world.

On the home front, three local labels, Ong Shunmugam, Elohim and Dzojchen will be presenting their upcoming collections as part of the first ever edition of Fashion Futures. The initiative is essentially a space for local designers to be mentored and eventually be placed in regional or international retailers, hopefully propelling them forward to greater ventures.

Beyond established international and local designers, SFW will also see the Audi Star Creation 2014 capsule collections from winners, Rebecca Corrine Lam (Hong Kong), Zhou Jin (China) and Newman Han (South Korea). In addition, the LASALLE College of the Arts Fashion Design students will put on their graduate show and Harper’s Bazaar Asia New Generation Fashion Designer Award winner will also be chosen among 10 emerging designers around the region.

“We’re thrilled to be back this year with some of fashion’s biggest names, Hollywood celebrities and influential fashion icons as we continue to be the only fashion week in the world that features established and emerging regional and homegrown designers alongside the world’s most iconic names in fashion,” said Tjin Lee, chairman of SFW.

Undeniably, SFW will be debuting with a bevy of impressive designers and industry heavyweights who will be a part of sharing their years of knowledge through feedback sessions however one question remains – will Singapore Fashion Week live up to its name and give the local fashion industry the boost it deserves?

Well, all of that remains to be judged, but we’re definitely looking forward to witness the thrilling venture forward!
