Gingham is back in style. ‘Check’ it out and get some tips on how to pull it off to perfection.

Deck yourself in the latest pattern to spring back into style: Gingham. The checkered print became one of the highlights from the Spring/ Summer 2015 runway, namely for brands like Diane von Furstenberg, Altuzarra, Oscar de la Renta, and more.

Not to be confused with its close cousins, plaid and tartan, Gingham generally has smaller checkers with the same line width echoing throughout the piece, and its base colour is always white.

It went a long way from being the typical pattern on vintage cooking aprons and old-fashioned milk maid attires, to the most preppy within the plaid family. It’s seen on all kinds of chic fashion items, like DVF’s full gingham look with a waist-bearing crop top and knee-length pleated skirt, which we recreated with pocket-friendly items. We reckon it’s best to keep it simple, styling the pattern with basic colours and the occasional pop of soft hues like blush pink or purple.
