Looking good in the classic workwear essentials – blazer or vest – can be tricky, but not to our streetstylers in this roundup. Here’s how to ace it with a twist!

Blazers and vests should be a permanent fixture in your daily work wear – they’re the staples in every office girl’s wardrobe after all. Wearing them without looking drab or stuffy takes skill (it’s too easy to settle on an ill-fitting piece, or an old 90s hand-me-down), but go too far out into the experimental lane and you could be verging on office-inappropriate.

ACE THE LOOK

Wear your confidence on your sleeves and venture out into modern fabrics and colours to lend edge to the classic silhouette. Forgo any lapels altogether, go for waist-cinching options and even mix casual with formal (denim as formal wear on Casual Fridays could just work!). Since our weather is less than forgiving, this extra layer has to be just the right cherry to top off your outfit. A good rule to remember is to always keep your first layer of clothing lightweight. That way, getting cold or needing an extra fashion piece to complete the ensemble won’t be at the expense of your breezy all-day comfort.

If you still can’t see yourself grabbing for one of your buy-on-a-whim blazers or trailing vests enough, just remember all the times your arm hairs stood on end at the office air conditioning.

Wish you had that outerwear with you now, don’t you?
