From fur coats to ultra chic turtlenecks – here are the top 10 trends of F/W 2014 that you don’t want to miss.

Summer is supposedly coming to a close, however it is unfortunately not the case for those of us who live in the more tropical parts of the world. Since our wardrobes will not be seeing any massive overhauls, that doesn’t mean we can’t relish in some of Fall’s brilliant trends. Keep the sandals and light dresses close by but here’s how to get in on the scoop and incorporate the season’s key looks.

We’ve scoured the racks and narrowed it down to our top 10 fall/winter 2014 trends!

ARMY CHIC

Ladies, the army chic trend is back! Dark colours, chinos and parkas will keep you looking super on-trend this season.

How to wear it?

This time around, pair your chinos with a large sweater and some classic gold chunky jewellery. If you are a little daring, layer an over-sized parka on top of a pair of cigarette pants.

FUR

This winter, it is all about fur – fur jackets, fur collars, fur coats, fur everything!

How to wear it?

Focus on the small details, fur collars, scarves or gloves. You don’t have to break the bank either, faux fur can be very beautiful and can be found everywhere.

To look super trendy, opt for a fur coat in pastels or bright colours.

BACK TO BLACK

Invincible – black appears on the catwalk and on the street. This time, opt for quilted, painted, velvet or embossed textures.

How to wear it?

Invest in a small black, shiny vinyl jacket, or a chunky knitted sweater. Pair them with your favourite pair of jeans (preferably black) and you’ll be good to go.

SPORTY

If you are about to store away your bomber jackets, trainers and sportswear then stop there! This winter will continue to see the chic sporty trend on the streets.

How to wear it?

Rock a nice pair of sneakers with a sweatshirt and a pair of masculine pants for an edgy look. If you cannot get enough of the trend, pair some trainers with a cute dress and tights.

SIXTIES

This is THE hottest trend of the season! Seen at all the biggest runways, the sixties London look makes a return!

How to wear it?

This winter we will be investing in an essential trendy piece – the turtleneck. Tuck it under a jacket or a V-neck shirt. For your shoes, go with a chunky heel.

FAIRY TALE

There’s magic in the air. By incorporating animal prints, hearts and flowers, our favourite Disney princesses come to life!

How to wear it?

Pin a cute brooch to your jacket or scarf but to really channel the trend, invest in a jacket with a cape.

PLAID

Everyone needs a little plaid in his or her life; it adds a touch of grunge – which we love!

How to wear it?

This season, you will not go wrong with the classic lumberjack shirt or tartan coat. If your fashion sense is a little over the top, pair the plaid shirt with pants that have a subtle print on them.

BRIGHT COLOURS

Bright colours work its way from summer to winter this year.

How to wear it?

For this season, invest in a tailored woman’s suit in a bright colour. If you dare, pair bright colours together – such as vibrant pink and red, or yellow and green.

SOFT KNITS

Since the weather may get a little cooler, a good knit sweater will become your best friend.

How to wear it?

Layer a large knit over some camel coloured jeans or pants. This winter will be all about XXL sweaters skirts and pants. Just make you only have one sweater on – no layering on top of shirts unless you want a heat stroke.

NOMAD

Have you got a burning desire to travel and escape? Then this trend is for you! This season, mix feminine chiffons with more rustic materials.

How to wear it?

Pair a long coat with a maxi printed scarf – perfect for any cold city escape!

Now, we’ll leave the shopping to you!
