Check out our 9 favourite spots for mouthwatering Ladoo, Gulab Jamun and Kheer in the city!

Entering the threshold of October has brought many things: whether it’s Halloween or the Mooncake Festival, this month plays host to a slew of hubbub and commotion. Incidentally, the beginning of the tenth month gives way to another prestigious celebration: Deepavali.

Distinguished as an auspicious time for Hindus, Deepavali is celebrated to spiritually symbolise the ultimate triumph of good over evil; hence aptly named the ‘Festival of the Lights‘ due to the devout belief of the light’s prevalence over darkness.

During this festive season, one can expect fragrant flower garlands, exquisite Henna designs, Rangoli patterns and of course, the symbolic oil lamps. However, if there’s one thing we are looking forward to, it would be the sugary Deepavali treats! As self-proclaimed gluttons, the very thought of saccharine Ladoo balls, mouth-watering Gulab Jamun and creamy Kheer pudding, has us foaming at the mouth!

Primarily consisting of traditional Indian spices (think Cardamom, Saffron and Rosewater), milk, sugar and coconut, Deepavali treats are a welcomed deviation from the norm! Sample cultural delights like the deep-fried Jaleebi (pictured above)- bathed in sugar syrup and drizzled with Saffron, this Pretzel-esque treat will leave you longing for more.

We’ve taken the liberty to round up the best spots in Singapore to satisfy your sugar fix this Deepavali. From high-end eateries like the Tiffin Room, to the humble Ajmir Store, these establishments promise delectable treats to binge on this festive season!
