There is no better way to celebrate the French tradition Chandeleur than to feast on crêpes. Have a go at all of our five recipes and we will crown you our crêpe connoisseur!

On 2nd February, exactly 40 days after Christmas, the French celebrate La Chandeleur. And leave it to the French to know how to put on a good party with the tradition’s main dish – crêpes!

The underlying story

Alternatively known as Candlemas, the event started as a Christian tradition that coincided with the beginning of winter sowing. Back in the days, farmers used the extra flour to make crêpes as a symbol of prosperity in the coming year because the golden dough resembled the much awaited sun.

Nowadays, sun or no sun, we love crêpes all the same and what better way to indulge in them than create one ourselves? So here are five easy-to-follow homemade recipes just for the occasion. It starts with a very basic set of instructions on how to make the batter and concludes with Chef Diego Jacquet‘s rendition of the popular French dish. Thanks to our sister F&B website Gourmand Asia, we can now celebrate Chandeleur comme les francais!
