Satisfy your sweet tooth like royalty with a slice of the delectable French King’s Cake by the world’s finest luxury tea brand – and be careful not to bite on the hidden surprise!

‘France’ is our middle name, hence, when it come to French traditions leave it to us to celebrate it – and in style if we may say. Luckily for us, it’s that time of year where we embrace our French side and this calls for a celebration… and a cake! During this yearly Mardi Gras — or ‘Fat Tuesday’, we allow ourselves to indulge in the King’s Cake and the tradition that comes with.

The cake, also known as Gallette des rois, is named after the biblical Three Wise Men. If you are unfamiliar with the custom surrounding this treat, allow us to fill you in. Hidden among the flaky layers of the puff pastry is a quaint little porcelain token called fève. And as each of us receives a slice of the cake, we take a peek to see if the token landed on our plate. With the fève, we would become the king or queen of the day entitled to royal treatment from our companions. But this also means the king or queen is bound to provide the next cake.

This year, TWG Tea, the world’s finest luxury tea brand, introduces a new rendition of the King’s Cake in Singapore. The pretty pastry is infused with TWG Tea’s signature Vanilla Bourbon Tea — a blend of red tea and vanilla beans. This added flavour coalesces with the fragrant frangipane cream filling made of almonds, butter, eggs and sugar. As you take a bite, the flaky dough crisps and crumbles into the sweet filling.  All of this richness is enclosed within a glazed, golden visage that makes it even the more challenging to resist. Apart from the special tea-infusion, this cake is as close as possible to the original – in looks, taste and even the fact that the fève is made of porcelain. And to make thing even sweeter, if you happen to be the lucky one to get the fève in your slice, you can redeem it for a complementary Haute Couture Tea at TWG Tea outlets.

Even though the French usually eat their galette on the 6th of January, worry not because TWG Tea’s King’s Cake is available until the 1st of February. So if you fancy trying it and becoming a French for a day, pop in to your closest TWG Tea to grab one. Don’t forget to invite some family or friends over because for $78, the scrumptious cake serves up to eight people!
