Does sports really help with weight loss?

We have turned to exercise to lose some weight, but is there any change on our weighing scales? Or worse, have we put on weight? Should we keep on trying or give up?

THERE IS NO SUSTAINABLE WEIGHT LOSS WITHOUT EXERCISE!

There are 3 essential elements to slimming: a well-balanced diet, enough sleep and regular physical activity! It is only with these 3 elements that we can hope to sustainably lose weight. If we follow a diet without exercise, we lose muscle and not fat. Then even if the figure on the weighing scales decreases with the reduction of our muscle mass, the tendency will reverse as soon as we stop dieting. And, generally, we put more weight back on than we lost. It is the well-known “yo-yo” diet!

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SLIM down?

It is all about regularity. We don’t have to do long exercise sessions, but it is necessary to do it often. To be healthy, it is recommended to do at least 30 minutes of average intensity exercise a day (walk to the office, go shopping, do the cleaning, play with children, walk the dog and so on). To slim, it is necessary to practise more sustained physical activity from 30 minutes to an hour, 2 to 3 times a week. Opt for jogging, swimming, cycling or cardio-training in fitness centres for example. And don’t forget that below 20 minutes of sport, the body burns especially sugar stock to ensure the muscular effort. Beyond this time, the body will begin to draw from the fat reserves and will remove them. So be patient!

BE CAREFUL ABOUT THE COMPENSATION EFFECT

Forget the sentence “I have had a good workout so I can treat myself”. By moving, we burn part of our fat reserves but if, on the other side, we overeat, the fat cells will immediately increase again and we can say goodbye to the exercise benefits!
