Alternative Medicine: Hypnosis relieves digestive disorders

No, hypnosis is not related with charlatanism! It can even be useful to calm intestinal pains. Let’s review it.

how IT WORKS

Between 5 and 20% of the population suffer from digestive disorders without any identified physiological causes. A large study was published at the beginning of 2014 in the World Journal of Gastroenterology, which concluded that 8 to 12 sessions of hypnosis can reduce pain and boost the quality of life and elevate the mood of patients. These effects continue even ten months after the end of the therapy!

THE LIMITS

You have to notice if your pain comes along with fever, with great weight loss or there is blood in your faeces. An unsuitable diet can also restrict the effects of the therapy. We know today that it may be better to avoid raw vegetables and sometimes gluten, as researchers are working on a “special colopathy” diet. “It is more and more obvious that the composition of the intestinal microbiota is linked with certain pathologies that irritate the colon. An adapted diet could modify the microbiota and relieve certain symptoms”
