Ever since the sex toys market existed, shopping in the adult shops has not been as easy task. Things have become even harder these days as we have much more choice so it is much more difficult to find what we need. Although it is all about personal preferences, there are still some small rules to respect to keep healthy and avoid unwanted problems. The experts at LELO – a Swedish brand which specialises in high-end intimate lifestyle products – give us their 10 tips to choose a fun and safe product.

1 – LOOK FOR CERTIFICATIONS, AVOID IMITATIONS

The sex toy industry, as with every industry, has its swindlers copying the best sellers, producing them at a lower cost and saving on everything to make profit without any care for your health. You can avoid these inconveniences by verifying certificates and by buying your products in recognized shops with a good reputation. Also, verify during your purchase if the casket contains the sentence “For Novelty Use Only” – it is as if you’re being told “We are not responsible of the safety of this product”. Avoid.

2 – DO NOT COMPROMISE

When it comes to intimacy, pleasure and health, do not compromise. Do not buy a cheap sex toy because it looks like an affordable version of a more reliable brand. Here we are speaking about your integrity.

3 – KEEP YOUR TOYS CLEAN

Love your objects of pleasure, and they will love you in return. Treat them well, and they will treat you well in return. Wash them before use, store them properly, verify the mechanical buttons are functioning correctly.

4 – SHARE, BUT PROTECT YOURSELVES

If you share your toys in the heat of the moment, it is advised to cover them with a condom and to change it every time you change partners. Honestly, it is just common sense.

5 – AVOID “JELLY” TOYS!

Numerous sex toys have been made with “jelly rubber”, which contains potentially dangerous “phthalates”, which may even be carcinogenic. Opt for products which are devoid of phthalates (it is specified on the packaging) to protect yourself from any health hazards and unpleasant surprises.

6 – Go for SILICONE…

Silicone is a remarkable material that is resistant to bacteria and widely used by the most renowned brands in the industry. Soft, comfortable to use and easy to clean, a product made in silicone means clearly that the manufacturer knows how to do things correctly. Simply avoid sticky silicones, which can attract dust.

7 -… AND BE CAREFUL OF GLASS AND METAL

Although they are very practical to clean, you have to make sure when you purchase a glass or a metal sex toy that the product is high quality and also perfectly smooth, just as you have to make sure you know all the metals that could cause you an allergic reaction.

8 – READ THE reviews CAUTIOUSLY

Go on forums and read what people say about the products that interest you. There is a big community of bloggers and users of sex toys that probably have opinions and advices to share with you.

9 – check the WEBSITES

Make the effort to have a look at the official website of the manufacturer of the sex toys that you wish to purchase. If they have no website, it might also mean that they haven’t invested in the sanitary safety of their products…

10 – Do the NOSE test, JUST FOR PLEASURE

Take a sex toy and put it under your nose. If the vibrations are rather strong and make you sneeze, it means that the product that you are testing may bring a complete satisfaction when it is used somewhere else!
