Get to know your camera
For many of us, we’re happy to just point and shoot and leave it at that. Smartphone technology has come a long way and, to ensure you’re capturing the best images, make sure you experiment with various angles and shoot pictures you wouldn’t normally take by being more observant of the things around you. Play around with the brightness, different backgrounds and other functions on your camera.

Remember the rule of thirds
When taking a picture, most of us amateur photographers will be inclined to place the subject in the centre of the frame in an attempt to balance out the picture. It is, however, recommended to keep in mind the rule of thirds. One of the easiest ways to use the rule of thirds is to use the camera's grid lines, which separates the frame into three equal parts, both horizontally and vertically. Place your subject at the intersection points and snap away!

Get the right light
Finding good lighting is the key to taking a nice picture. Natural lighting will almost always produce better quality pictures than one that is taken with flash. Conversely, taking photos in dark places will result in poorer image quality. If you are taking a shot indoors, try to look for natural light or artificial lights.

Include people in your pictures
Taking interesting shots of old school buildings may sound like a good idea, but that doesn’t always translate to a great shot. Getting your friends or even yourself in the shots makes photos more personable and memorable.

Create symmetry shot
Shooting symmetrical pictures is one of the simplest and most artistic way to compose a photo. Symmetry is created by splitting an image into two equal parts that are mirror images of each other. It can also come in the form of reflections. A great tip will be to make use of grid lines from tip #1 to help you line everything up perfectly.
